Academy of Country Music Awards

by lindarae on April 6, 2009

Wow, what a great show! I love this show because several artists present new songs!  Carrie Underwood’s dress was fitting for such a winner and Taylor Swift has certainly helped gain a lot of younger fans into country music.

Lt. Andrew Kinard, a Marine who had been injured in Iraq, presented Trace Adkins and the West Point Glee Club performing “Til the Last Shot’s Fired.” He told the audience, “As you listen to this song, please consider: It’s not about the war, it’s about the warrior.”  That was a very moving part of the ACM Awards.

Here is a list of winners at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards from Las Vegas:

• Entertainer of the year: Carrie Underwood

• Top male vocalist: Brad Paisley

• Top female vocalist: Carrie Underwood

• Top vocal group: Rascal Flatts

• Top vocal duo: Sugarland

• Top new artist: Julianne Hough

• Top new male vocalist: Jake Owen

• Top new female vocalist: Julianne Hough

• Top new duo or vocal group: Zac Brown Band

• Album of the year: “Fearless,” Taylor Swift

• Single record of the year: “You’re Gonna Miss This,” Trace Adkins

• Song of the year: “In Color,” Jamey Johnson

• Video of the year: “Waitin’ On a Woman,” Brad Paisley

• Vocal event of the year: “Start a Band,” Brad Paisley and Keith Urban

Musical Lenten Service

by lindarae on March 30, 2009

Yes, it is the season of Lent. Easter is in just two weeks! Several weeks ago, I was asked by my church to prepare a musical message for a Wednesday Lenten service and use some songs that I wrote. I presented the message this past Wednesday. After much thought, I used “How Might They Feel” as the theme to my message. “They” referred to Mary and Jesus. Songs that I wrote and used in the message were: “Don’t Worry ’bout Tomorrow”, “Watch Your Little Baby Grow”,”The Love Between a Mother and a Son”, “Crumpled Paper”, and “Why Me?”. I ended my message with the video “Why?” by Nicole Nordeman.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD0SzV247Ek

I prepared a similar message last year and used the video, “New Again”  by Sara Evans and Brad Paisley to end my message. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-r-M_dORk0

Happy Easter! God Bless!

Appalachia Service Project ASP

by lindarae on March 22, 2009

My church had a big fundraiser today for ASP. We had a spaghetti dinner and a silent auction. It went very well. My husband and I were in charge so I am super glad that thing went OK!

ASP stands for Appalachia Service Project. This is an organization that has church groups work as volunteers in the Appalachia Mountain region for a week in the summer. The weekly work crews come for 8 weeks into the region and sleep on cots in schools or some place that can accomodate about 80 youth and adults. The effort is to make the family homes warmer, safer, and drier.

I have been writing songs about my experiences in ASP for the past several years so today at the dinner I played guitar and sang about 6 of the songs. Each song related to a yearly ASP theme and was about a true experience of mine. You may listen to a few of the songs bits here on my site. “Appalachia”, “Build Upon the Rock”, and “God’s Amazing Plan” are three of the ASP related songs.   The first two are on my FAITH SONGS album.

I will be making a trip to Nashville this summer and I plan to record more of the ASP songs and will probably have songs for a “FAITH SONGS 2″ Album.

What a night! I got my wish. There are several really different contestants this year: from Danny and Matt, two males, singing Carrie Underwood songs and singing them well, to Adam, the “boy toy”, singing a “metal” version of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash! Just where does he get the ideas to do a song like that?? Megan has such an individual old-fashioned voice. I just can’t place who she sounded like tonight singing “Walking After Midnight”. AND, Anoop singing the Willie Nelson song “You Were Always on My Mind” was actually very good. Wow, what a show! I want to watch it again!

Keep going Danny from Milwaukee!! So what do you think ? Are his glasses all for show or does he need them to see? Whatever, he can really sing!

Randy Travis did a great job as a mentor for the contestants. I saw him sing at a church in Milwaukee. He is so moving. I actually record at the same studio in Nashville where he did “Three Wooden Crosses”. I love that song.larry-beaird-band1  See that picture above my head?  That is an autographed photo of Randy Travis!

Keep watchin’!

American Idol

by lindarae on March 11, 2009

Ok everyone!! Who watches American Idol? I love the show! I was a bit surprised when they did not put a country artist through with country being so big right now. However, there are a few of the contestants that could do well on country night. I think Danny, Matt, Alexis, Scott, Matt, and Michael could sing a country song quite well. Of course, any one of the contestants could sing a country song! I do hope they have a country night this year.

Several of the contestants have not had formal singing training and are just regular people like you and me! That’s the beauty of the entire contest! Watching the contestants grow, learn, and may times, improve is a huge part of the show for me. I learn a lot by listening to the judges and watching the contestants.

Danny G. is actually from my region of the country. When asked about his personal goals in life Danny relpied, I’d like to “touch, help and bring hope to as many people as I can. I would like to influence the youth of our day.” If he doesn’t make it on American Idol, he said he would still record his own music and mix his music with the foundation to help people.

I, too, have the goal of motivaton in many of my songs. I had not planned on making albums but after being asked where to get my songs, I figured that I better get some recorded. The whole process has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience. The people in Nashville that help me are fantastic! I am actually planning another trip to Nashville this summer to cut another album;)

Disney on Ice

by lindarae on March 2, 2009

I recently attended a Disney on Ice show and it was great! (Good for you if you can ice skate! I think I tried it a few times and ended up NOT on my feet most of the time.) The artistic effort, balance, and storytelling in flowing motion in the ice skating show was rejuvinating.

Music is much the same for me. The ability to create music and let it flow is satisfying.
