Relaxation

At the beginning of my yoga class today my instructor asked us to write down some things that we enjoy; things that we can really do for hours and just get lost in the process; things that also help us to relax. The first thing that I put on my paper was playing the guitar. If I am in a room by myself, I can create for hours. However, if I want to be able to recreate what I have been playing, I would have to turn on a tape recorder immediately and just keep it running. There is just something about connecting with my guitar and relaxing. New lyrics, melodies, and songs happen. I am learning that generally my best work is what is done as soon as I pick up the guitar or play the piano. So, I try and keep a tape recorder very handy. I’ve lost many good tunes because I just could not duplicate them after I created them once.

Problems with recreation also happens with just lyrics. Once, I had to write a song in the dark while laying down. Every time I got up, the lyrics left me!! So I had to just shut off the lights and write in the dark. In the morning I looked at the 5 big sheets that I had used (hard to write small in the dark while laying down!) and three of them were blank. I had grabbed a pen to write the song and mid way through the ink had rolled up to the top of the cylinder and—no words. I paced and tried every secret decoding trick that I had seen on the TV. Nothing worked. Finally, as I was walking buy a window, a narrow beam of light shot onto the page and hit it just right. Some of the letters started appearing. Yes, someone up there helped me with that song! The song is “The Love Between A Mother and a Son”. I’ll put it in my SNOCAP if you’d like to take a listen.

Anyway, find something that you really enjoy doing and RELAX;)
